The exhibited works by Szendrő and Kirbas explore the overlapping areas of online video and television culture and religion. The artworks examine what functions TV or online video pieces may have in people’s life, focus on understanding how different forms of mass media try to impact on the human brain and reveal the resemblance of the findings to how religious messages work. The exhibited videos reflect on their own medium, which offers a meta-level of the interpretation on media influence. While Szendrő places the emphasis on human’s innate desires and how they are connected to rules of society, Kirbas presents television as a device for political manipulation. Still the connection between religious communication or the answers of religion to people’s questions and the language of television or online video clips is highlighted in both artists’ works. Without the intention of judging the medium itself or creating an exhaustive list of possible uses of television, the show reflects on the ever-present human need for answers and on the different methods how this need might be fulfilled.
